Obituary of Larry J. Peterson
Larry J. Peterson (72) resident of Hayden, ID and former resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at Kootenai Health on August 2, 2024. He was born to Harry and Margaret Peterson in St. Maries, ID on June 12, 1952. Larry was raised in St. Maries and graduated St. Maries High School with the class of 1970.
Following graduation, Larry attended North Idaho College and earned his Associate’s Degree in Auto Body Repair. In 1973 Larry married Vicki Amos on her family’s farm near Plummer, ID. The couple had their son Tim and made their home in St. Maries. Larry opened his own body shop named Larry’s Auto Body located in the upstairs of Benewah Motors. As his business grew, he opened his new shop just across the alley where Royal Coach now sits. Larry and Vicki’s marriage ended in divorce, but they remained friends.
Later in life, Larry moved around spending time in the Silver Valley and worked at other body shops before opening another of his own and permanently making Hayden his home. He ran that business until his health started failing and he could no longer manage it. After battling addiction most of his life, he recognized the desire and need of helping those who were going through addiction. Larry enrolled at Spokane Falls Community College where he earned his Associates Degree in Addiction Studies and successfully mentored many people.
Larry loved sports and was a Mariners, Zags, and Seahawks fan. When he wasn’t cheering on his favorite teams, you could find him having a good time playing softball, pool, golf, or reconnecting with friends. In the last 10 years of Larry’s life, he found peace, contentment, sobriety, and faith.
Larry is survived by his son and daughter in-law Tim and Kelly Peterson of Coeur d’ Alene, ID; and their son Eric Holliday; nephew’s Gene (Shelly) Kruger and David (Diane) Reep all of St. Maries, ID; niece Julie Kruger of Hayden, ID; and his beloved fur baby Buddy.
