Obituary of Freddie Elaine Phillips
Freddie Elaine Phillips (79) resident of Fernwood, ID passed away at her home on August 2, 2024. She was born on January 19, 1945, in Redding, CA. Freddie grew up in St. Joe City where she attended a 1 room schoolhouse. She then attended school in St. Maries and graduated St. Maries High School with the class of 1963.
Following high school, Freddie went to Coeur d’ Alene where she attended beauty school. After beauty school, she returned to St. Joe City. Freddie met Darryl Phillips at the Big Eddy Resort, and the couple married in St. Maries on June 25, 1965. They bought a trailer and made their home temporarily up the Benewah near Darryl’s logging job. They then moved to Clarkia, ID and spent 10 years there to be close to Darryl’s work and Freddie stayed home to take care of their children. They bought their forever home in Fernwood, ID and built it up to what it is today.
Freddie worked for several years at the Fernwood Merc. She enjoyed volunteering and spent time on the Fernwood Fire Department and was instrumental in the planning of Fernwood Days for several years. When Christmas came, she found joy in making holiday wreaths and swags, and delivered them to over 100 friends, family, and community members. Freddie loved to 4-wheel and was talented in the kitchen when it came to cooking and baking. Her passion was being outdoors, and she raised several flower gardens over the years.
Freddie is survived by her husband Darryl at their home in Fernwood; children Dale (Leann) Phillips of St. Maries, Doug Phillips of Fernwood, and Lori (Jeff) Owens of Spokane, WA; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents.
