Obituary of Nathan Carpenter
Nathan “Wally” W. Carpenter (61) lifelong resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at his home on September 25, 2024. He was born to Lee and Myrtle (Greene) Carpenter Jr. on July 1, 1963, in St. Maries. Nathan grew up in the Marble Creek and St. Maries areas. He attended St. Maries High School, but left in the 11th grade to go work in the woods. Through mutual friends in 2007, Wally met Janet Womeldorff, and they made their home in St. Maries.
Growing up near Marble Creek, Wally obtained a passion and love for the outdoors and fishing. Taught to fish by his older brother, he could out fish him when he became older. They ventured all over the woods up the St. Joe River and had the best childhood; acquiring skills that were beneficial when Wally became an adult. An avid outdoorsman he loved to hunt and fish. He and Janet processed all of their wild meat, and one of their specialties was summer sausage. Wally was also a master on the grill and everyone in the family looked forward to his smoked turkeys at Thanksgiving.
When he wasn’t hunting or fishing, Wally was a rockhound and had quite an impressive collection from all over. An injury in the woods left Wally unable to work and he found himself limited in some of the things he used to be able to do, but he could still fish and collect rocks. He also loved animals, and spent a lot of time with his beloved Chocolate Lab Max.
Wally is survived by his wife Janet Womeldorff at their home in St. Maries, brother Jeff Carpenter of St. Maries, and numerous extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Molly Rae Carpenter.
Services for Wally will be announced at a later date.
