Obituary of Patricia Ann Sweet
Patricia Ann Sweet (76) resident of Emida, ID passed away at her home on October 9, 2024. She was born to William and Jean Berklund on August 28, 1948, in Marquette, MI. At the age of 3, Pat’s family moved to Cottonwood, ID. They bought the local motel and laundromat. When she was a child, she worked at both places while helping raise her younger siblings. Pat graduated from Prairie High School in Cottonwood.
One day in Kamiah, ID Pat was walking down the street with some girlfriends. They ran into one of her friends’ brother. He was in his military uniform and handsome as can be. Pat looked at him and told the girls she was going to marry him some day. The couple started dating and a year later she married Jim Sweet. The couple made their home throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Jim’s job took the family to Oregon, Nevada, Montana, and Washington. He and Pat spent 10 years in Tekoa, WA where Pat worked for the local care center. They bought property near Emida and relocated after an on-the-job injury that left Jim unable to work. This property was their forever home spending over 30 years there.
Pat was a simple woman who had a small circle of friends and enjoyed a quiet life. She did spend time cooking for Valley Vista and the Senior Meal Site. Her biggest joy and hobby in life was taking care of her grandkids. Pat was a natural caretaker, and she felt blessed to always be there for her family. Aside from caring for people, she loved playing the game Diggy’s Adventure and she was a true and loyal Star Trek fan. It was a daily ritual to watch the show with her daughter Shannan.
Pat is survived by her daughters Shannan (Lonnie) Layman of Emida, ID and Ashley (Sean) Tinney of Milan, MO; siblings Betty Ballou, Olga Bashaw, Bob Berklund, and Mike Berklund; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim Sweet, daughter Shelly Ausmus, brothers Bill Berklund and Henry Berklund, and sisters Connie Forsman and Kathy Berklund.
