Obituary of Lana Fern Schumacker
Lana Fern Schumacker (81) longtime St. Maries, ID resident passed away on December 30, 2024, with her loving family surrounding her. She was born in August of 1943, to Archie and Mary Sue Langdon in Pocatello, ID. Lana grew up in Twin Falls, ID, and graduated from Twin Falls High School with the class of 1961.
Following high school, Lana attended the University of Idaho studying English and History. It was there she met the love of her life Richard Schumacker. The couple married and Lana graduated from U of I with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Richard’s work took them to Grand Island, NE where Lana taught History.
In 1972 the Schumacker family relocated to St. Maries, ID where Lana helped Richard run Schumacker Texaco, a business they operated from 1972 – 1978. They then purchased Schumacker’s Jewelry from Richard’s parents. Lana helped Richard run this business right up until she was too ill to do so. Lana was one of the highlights of visiting the store as she loved people. A person could run in for a 5-minute stop and find themselves engaged in beautiful conversation with her lasting over an hour. She had the gift of gab and always made people feel special. Her claim to fame however was playing a movie extra in Dante’s Peak that was filmed in Wallace, ID. She met Pierce Brosnan and proudly hung her photo of him in the jewelry store. She also served as a member of Eastern Star and Idaho Women in Timber.
Lana was a devoted Seahawks and Gonzaga fan, and she was the one in the household yelling and cheering at the tv. She also enjoyed lively debates and traveling, specifically to Europe, Mexico, and Hawaii. Lana was a true class act with a heart of gold, and she will not only be missed by her family, but also her community.
Lana is survived by her husband Richard at their home near St. Maries; children Carrie (Kelly) Scott of St. Maries and Craig (Wanda) Schumacker of Aurora, CO; brothers David (Connie) Langdon of Eagle, ID and Robert (Melinda) Langdon of Denver, CO; dear cousin Sandra Fitzpatrick (Bill Hite) of San Ramon, CA; grandchildren Karl (Heidi) Scott of St. Maries, ID and Leticia (Jason) Seloske of Lewiston, ID; and great grandchildren Chris and Esme Scott of St. Maries, ID. She is preceded in death by her parents.
A Memorial Service will be on Friday, January 24, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Community Presbyterian Church in St. Maries. A gathering of family and friends to share lunch will follow in the fellowship hall of the church.
