Obituary of Joanne Lorraine Peone
Joanne Lorraine Peone (72) longtime Plummer, ID resident passed away at Kootenai Health on January 8, 2025. She was born to Samuel and Gertrude (Dupree) Peone on December 12, 1952, in Nespelem, WA. Joanne grew up around Ford, WA and graduated from Rearden High School with the class of 1970.
In the late 1970’s, Joanne moved to Plummer, ID where she had 2 children and made her home. She went to work for the Coeur d’ Alene Tribe as a Land Services Specialist. At one time she tried to retire; however, after 6 months of trying retirement, she knew it wasn’t for her, so she returned to work in her original job. She held this position until her death, serving an impressive 35+ year career with the Coeur d’ Alene Tribe.
When she wasn’t working, Joanne served on the Stick Game Committee, helped prepare funeral dinners, and she enjoyed sewing and knitting. She was a purple member at the Coeur d’ Alene Casino enjoying gambling and playing BINGO. Spending time with her family was the most important thing to her. In her younger days, she loved traveling, and her kids could always count on a summer vacation somewhere. Some of their best vacations were spent in Yellowstone, Glacier, Edmonton, Seattle, and the Oregon Coast. She followed her grandkids around in their sporting events, and many memories were made fishing the local ponds and lakes.
Joanne is survived by her children Jeannie Peone and Charles Peone of Plummer, ID; grandchildren Jalil Peone and Jemari Peone both of Plummer, ID; siblings Violet Sanchez of Ford, WA, Rebecca Jordan of Plummer, ID, Norma Peone of Plummer, ID; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Pudgy Peone, Ann McCalister, Sam Peone Jr., Kenny Peone, and Rosie Peone.
Family night was held on January 12, 2025 at the Rose Creek Longhouse in Worley. Rosary was recited on January 13, 2025 at 7:00 pm at the Rose Creek Longhouse, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am on January 14, 2025 at the longhouse. Joanne’s final resting place is at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Worley, ID.
