Obituary of Duane F Young
Duane F. "Tude" Young (81) longtime St. Maries, ID resident, died Nov. 24, 2013 at his home in St. Maries following a lengthy illness. He was born November 6, 1932 to Forest and Itasca (Leithead) Young at Colville, WA. As a young child, Tude lived with his parents in Twin Lakes before moving to Spokane where he grew up and went to school. As a young man, he moved to Bovill, ID where he worked in a logging camp shoveling trees out for his brothers. At age 14, Tude moved to Clarkia where he logged with his older brothers. He met Bonnie Barden in Santa, ID and they were married at Red Bluff, CA on Dec. 20, 1955. While trying to get a witness for their marriage, they came upon a local fisherman who obliged them and attended the nuptials wearing his waders. Tude and Bonnie made their home in St. Maries where he went to work logging with horses in 1956. They had four children and raised them in St. Maries. In 1968, Tude bought out his father-in-laws (Ted Barden) logging company. Tude worked the business until 1980 when he retired and sold his logging equipment. In 1982, Tude bought a line machine and worked for St. Maries Logging to pile brush. He retired a second time at the age of 72 in 2004. In his retirement, Tude and Bonnie enjoyed being "snowbirds" and traveled to property they purchased at San Phillipe, Mexico. They owned the property for 10 years before selling it. Tude enjoyed re-storing vintage cars and collecting them. One highlight of his work with restoration was when he received 1st place in its division for a 1934 Chevy pick-up that was awarded to him at the 1979 Spokane Auto, Boat and Speed Show. Tude loved Country Music. He was an avid guitar player and enjoyed getting together with his friends at his home for "jam sessions". He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's musical events at church. He is survived by his wife Bonnie at the family home in St. Maries. Son's and daughters-in-law Hal and Doreen Young of Alameda, CA and Rusty and Tina Young of St. Maries, ID. Daughter and son-in-law Shannon and Dan Stuhlman and Terese Young Johnson and Vince Peters of St. Maries. Tude is also survived by his 1st cousin Carol Townsend of Coeur d' Alene, ID , 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 niece and 2 nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Bruce and Grant Young and sister Eileen Klundt. Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodge Funeral Home, St Maries, ID with Rev. Dan Swan officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with a gathering of family and friends following at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge.
