Obituary of Darrell W. Dugger
Darrell W. Dugger (76) longtime St. Maries area resident died November 30, 2013 at St. Maries, ID. He was born September 6, 1937 to Ralph and Lorraine (Cardwell) Dugger at Portland, OR. He moved to Sanders, ID with his family when he was a year old. Darrell grew up and attended schools in Emida and Sanders and later in St. Maries. As a boy, he had a paper route in St. Maries. Darrell enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955. His home port was San Diego, CA. He served on the USS Aludra AF 55 which was a supply ship that serviced Carrier groups in the South Pacific. His tour of duty took him to ports in the Philippines and Japan. Darrell was honorably discharged in 1957 and returned to St. Maries where he drove for Keiffer Bus lines for a couple of years. Darrell also worked at the Cherry Creek Tavern. Other jobs included working for Titus logging and other area logging contractors. In 1965, he married Connie Barnes in Coeur d' Alene, ID. The marriage produced son Robbie and daughter Darla. They divorced in 1974. In 1978, Darrell bought a Cat and went to work for himself in the woods. He started dating Shirley VanCleave and they were married in Coeur d' Alene, ID in Aug. 1, 1988. He enjoyed car racing, hunting, going 4-wheeling and traveling as well as watching hydroplane racing. Darrell enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Darrell is survived by his wife Shirley at the family home. Son Robbie Dugger and his companion Emma Brewer and daughter and son-in-law Darla and Rick O'Donnell all of St. Maries. Step-sons Raymond Carlson of Canby, OR, Robert Carlson of Woodburn, OR and step-daughter and her husband Roxanne and Mirco Camancho of Silverton, OR. Darrell is also survived by his brother Gary "Blackie" Dugger and sister Janice Weinmann both of St. Maries. There are 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also surviving. He was preceded in death by step-son Ronnie Carlson. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge with Floyd and Nancy Turner officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the Eagles Lodge. The family suggests memorials to the St. Maries Loggers Memorial Fund C/O Sara Renner , Benewah Co.
