Obituary of Flora May Orr
The Life of Flora May Orr Flora May was born May 26, 1921 in Meridian Idaho to Russell and Stella Brockus. She attended Lower Fairview grade school, graduated from Nampa High School, attended McPherson College in McPherson Kansas and validated a teaching certificate in Lewiston Idaho. She taught the 1st thru 4th grades at Victory School for one year. Flora May married Ronald H. Orr on August 16, 1942. They made their first home in Holmesville Nebraska where they farmed for 13 years and where their three children were born. In 1956 the family returned to Idaho, spending one year in Happy Valley area before moving into Nampa. Flora May worked in the school lunch program, was a dental assistant / receptionists for Dr Ray Blickenstaff and completed her working career with H.H. Keim Company in 1986. After retiring, she continued to work in community events and volunteered her time helping others. She worked as a registrar with the Election Board and served as a reader with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She was a member of the Civic Center Auxiliary, Church Women United, Women's Christian Temperance Union, and the Nampa Council on Aging, where she served as secretary and a member of the Human Resource Committee. Flora May was a devoted member of the Nampa Church of the Brethren where she dedicated herself to many activities. She quilted with Dorca's Circle, served as the first woman moderator, worship leader secretary/treasurer of the building committee, taught Sunday School and was delegate to several District Conferences and National Conventions. Flora May peaceful passed on Friday January 10, 2014. She is survived by on sister, June Lowber of Nampa Idaho; two sons LaWayne Orr and wife Beverly of Houston Texas and Eugene Orr of Mission Viego California; one daughter Rita Thurston and husband Bill of Valleyford Washington; five grandchildren Cynthia Landreneau, Kevin and Michael Orr, Stacey Coyner and Sean Thurston; sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Her husband Ronald Orr who succumbed 3-29-1984 preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be Friday, January 17, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Nampa Church of the Brethern 11030 W. Orchard Ave. Nampa, ID.. Interment will follow at Kohlorlawn Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Heifers for Relief Fund, through the Nampa Church of the Brethren.
