Obituary of Evelyn E. Burns

Evelyn Burns was born June 2nd, 1924 in Hecla, South Dakota to Charles and Elsie (Raisanen) Wuolu. The family moved to a farm near Ludden, North Dakota, where she received her elementary education. She attended high school in Oakes, North Dakota, where she graduated in 1942. After graduation, she moved to Oakland, California, where her older brother and sister lived. In Oakland, she attended Meritt Business School. Soon after, she worked for Western Electric which was part of the Bell Telephone Company for several years. She then met her future husband, James, who had served in the Marine Corp for four years. They were married in 1947 in Berkeley, California. Evelyn and James lived in Berkeley, California for six years where, their older son Bill was born in 1950. They then moved back to Colville, Washington where the Burns family resided. Their younger son, Steve, was born there in 1954. James Burns worked in the logging industry in Colville for several years before moving to the St. Maries, Idaho area where he continued his work in the woods. In 1972, they moved to Portland, Oregon. Fond of the idea of working together, they purchased a laundry mat. After living in Portland for ten yeas, then decided to move back to St. Maries, where both of their son’s resided, and James and Evelyn retired. Evelyn, found pride in being a homemaker. She was a gentle, soft spoken woman, whose kind heart was always present in her actions. She loved spending time in her flower garden. Although, her strawberry patch spread her love to many others, in form of delicious treats. She was an organized and detail orientated woman, who loved her family whole heartedly. Evelyn is survived by her two sons, Bill Burns and Steve Burns. She is also survived by two grandsons and one great-grandson. She is preceded in death by her husband James Burns, and numerous brothers and sisters. The family is planning a celebration of her life for this spring.
