Obituary of Alvin Charles Nelson

Alvin Charles Nelson (66) resident of St. Maries, ID, died Jan. 19, 2014 at his home from an apparent heart attack. Al was born May 17, 1947 to William and Irene (Vens) Nelson at Spokane, WA. He was raised in Emida, ID where he attended grade school. Al attended High School in St. Maries. As a young man, He went to work for the St. Maries Complex of Potlatch Corp. He worked most of his career as a spreaderman. Al married Carol Strain in 1968. The marriage produced 4 children, Jim Amy, Joe and Angie. They were divorced in 1977. All married Ramona Wolfe in 1979 and they were divorced in 1994. Al retired from Potlatch after 37 years with the company. Al enjoyed camping, riding 4-wheelers on family outings and helping his nephew Toby working part time on his ranch in Colfax, WA. During family reunions, Al was designated "camp fire tender and marshmallow roaster" for the grandkids smores. Al is survived by his sons Jim Nelson of St. Maries and Joe Nelson of Fernwood, ID, his daughter and son-in-law Angie and Don Cox of Trout Lake, WA and a daughter Amy Nelson, Sister-in-law Lynn Nelson of Colfax, WA. Also surviving are brother Rodger Nelson of Clarkia, ID, 11 grandchildren , 2 great grandchildren , 2 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by both parents and brother Billy Nelson. A celebration of his life will be held in May at a location and time to be announced in the Gazette Record.
