Obituary of Robert Alan Moore
Robert (Bob) A. Moore died at his home January 16, 2014 at the age of 65. He is survived by his daughters Jennifer Stufflebean of Truth or Consequences, NM and Lynda Moore of Bend, OR. He is also survived by his sister Marta Lutz of Franklin, TN; nephew Eric Lutz and family of Tuscaloosa, AL; niece Kristy Lutz Ulmer and family of Dubai, UAE; grandson Zachary Moore of Peoria, IL; and numerous friends from near and far. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Nash, and father, Robert C. Moore. Bob was a career U. S. Navy man, having dedicated 26 years to military service. He enlisted at the age of 19 and served in Atsugi, Japan; NAS Whidbey Island multiple times; Adak, Alaska; Rota, Spain; Fallon, NV; and retired from VAQ-140, home-based in NAS Whidbey Island as a Master Chief Aircraft Maintenanceman (E-9). Bob held a high security clearance during the Vietnam War. He was life-long proud of serving as Aircrew during that time on his most favorite aircraft, "The Whale" (Douglas A-3). As such, he flew missions from numerous overseas installations. He was married to Susan Moore for 16 years, much of his Navy career. He held a lifetime membership to the Disabled American Veterans, was an active member of the St. Maries Elks Lodge (B.P.O.E. 1418), a member of the American Legion Post 25 of St. Maries, Idaho, and the VFW Post 7028 of Palisade, Nebraska. Upon retirement from the Navy, Bob built a house in Oak Harbor, Washington and worked at Whidbey General Hospital. He discovered St. Maries while driving home from Montana in 2001 and immediately fell in love with the area. Bob sold his house in Oak Harbor and built a home near Emida, Idaho where he lived the remainder of his life. The area provided all of his favorite pastimes as well as the beauty, stillness, and quiet of the rugged outdoors. It is here that he will forever be "chasing the shade." A memorial service will be held at the St. Maries Elks Lodge at 11:00am on Saturday, February 1, 2014. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to either the Benewah County Humane Society (Hope's Haven Animal Shelter), who took such good care of Bob's best friend "Bucks," or the organization with which he was most active and proud of - the Elks Lodge of St. Maries. He would've liked that. Read Robert Moore's Obituary and Guestbook on www.hodgefuneralhome.com.
