Obituary of Edwin O. Humann

Edwin O. Humann (83) resident of St. Maries, ID died peacefully February 24, 2014 at his home near St. Maries following an extended illness. He was born July 5, 1930 to Arthur and Magdalena (Maier) Humann at Bismarck, N.D. Edwin grew up in Hazleton, ND. He left school early to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He served on board the USS Neches AO47 during the Korean War. Following his Honorable Discharge, he returned to North Dakota to work on the family farm. Edwin and Sally Bosch were married in 1956 in North Dakota. They made their home at Steele, ND where Edwin worked as a welder. They divorced in 1973 and Edwin moved to St. Maries, ID. He worked in the construction of the cedar mill that was on the site where Harvest Foods now stands. Edwin married Julie Chandler on Sept. 21, 1974 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. Maries. The cedar mill was destroyed by fire in 1974 and Edwin went to work for Potlatch Northern Units Logging. He worked there as a welder and diesel mechanic. Edwin retired in 1992. Edwin was a member of the Lutheran faith. He also belonged to the Welders of America Assn. Edwin enjoyed helping at the Senior Meal Site. An avid welder, Edwin was constantly building things for himself and his friends. He enjoyed hunting camping and fishing when he was able and loved to take his daughters to O-Mok-See events. He participated in the St. Maries Community Choir. Edwin was well known for his ability to make great German sausage. Edwin is survived by his wife Julie at the family home. Son Daniel Humann of Windy Bay, ID. Daughters Nancy Ratterer of Dickinson, ND, Lynell Hanley and Annette Ordaul both of Muskegon, MI, Shawnya Bice of Coeur d' Alene, ID and daughter and son-in-law Edwina and Matthew Chatigny of Moses Lake, WA. Also surviving are brothers Ruben, Alvin, Leroy, Monte and Terry Humann and sisters Edna Grenz, Ella Kalberer , Eunice Nelson and Esther Huber. There are 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews surviving as well. He was preceded in death by son David Humann in 1965 and brother Robert Humann. A celebration of his life will be Monday, March 3, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Worch officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 25 of St. Maries with a gathering of family and friends following in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.
