Obituary of Loretta Viola Dahlkey

Loretta Viola Dahlkey (79) lifetime St. Maries area resident, died March 23, 2014 at St. Maries. She was born October 4, 1934 to Lawyer and Sadie (Brayton) Asbury at Emida, ID. Loretta moved with her family to St. Maries when she was 6 years old. She attended St. Maries schools. Loretta left school in 1952 and as a young woman, she worked as a waitress for the C & M Café, Pat & Scotts and the Midway Restaurant. Loretta married Richard "Buster" Dahlkey on Sept 22, 1956 at Reno, NV. They made their home in California. She worked for Diamond International in paper products manufacturing at Red Bluff, CA. Loretta and Buster returned to St. Maries in 1960. She was involved with raising her family. Loretta continued working for area restaurants and also worked at Crocker's Cedar Shake Mill. One of her last waitress positions was with the Parkline Supper Club. Her husband died in February of last year. Loretta enjoyed quilting, gardening, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Loretta was an avid bowler. She was a member of the St. Maries Women's Bowling Assn. and a Past President of the St. Maries Eagles Auxiliary. Loretta is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Larry and Joanna Dahlkey , her daughter Cheryl Patton and daughter and son-in-law Jeanne and Tim Dean all of St. Maries, ID. Also surviving are her sister Mildred Allen of St. Maries and Edith White of Osburn, ID., 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Buster Asbury and sisters Irene Capaul and Audrey Leitz Graveside celebration of her life and committal will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery.
