Obituary of Sumiye Lois Taniguchi

Sumiye Taniguchi, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on April 3, 2014 at the age of 95. Sumiye lived in St. Maries, Idaho at the time of her passing, residing at Valley Vista Care Center for the past 8 years. Sumiye was born on September 26, 1918 at Upland, California. And then her family went back to Japan for several years. She married John Taniguchi when she came back to the United States, living in California and then to the Jerome, Arkansas Interment Camp for several years. Sumiye was formerly from Brigham City, Utah where she spent most of her adult life. She worked at Idle Isle restaurant for many years and was the main pie baker while there. She loved gardening , knitting, embroidery work and made many beautiful afghans and pillow cases for her family and still doing her knitting and embroidery work at age 95. Sumiye is survived by her two sons, Henry Taniguchi and Richard (Linda) Taniguchi, two grandchildren , Amika Dupree and Tyson Taniguchi, four great grandchildren, Sundeep, Harvest, Kiarra and Liam. Also surviving are two step-grandchildren, 7 step- great grandchildren and 19 step- greatgreat grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister. She was preceded in death by her parents Sakichi and Toyo Yamikido, two brothers and daughter-in-law sally Taniguchi. We would like to thank the staff at Valley Vista for all their loving and passionate care. She will be missed by all. Funeral Services will be held at Myers Mortuary, Brigham City, Utah at a date and time to be announced. Hodge Funeral Home, St. Maries, ID is handling local arrangements.
