Obituary of James Earl Kahn
James Earl Kahn (91) St. Maries resident, died January 16, 2012 at Bestland Senior Living Center in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. Born on February 29, 1920, to James and Pearl (Cecil) Kahn at Richmond, Virginia, James was the oldest of seven children. The second of four generations of military service, Jim joined the U.S. Navy on June 14, 1937; he was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He retired from the Navy as an Aviation Chief Machinist's Mate on December 16, 1957. On June 17, 1944, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jim married Eunice Mae Sutherland, who was also serving in the Navy. The couple had six children. They lived in many locations around the country during their military service, finally moving from Pahrump, Nevada, to St. Maries in 1994. Jim is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Ralph and Kathy Kahn of Medimont, Robert and Karen Kahn of Orange, California, Nelson and Cindy Kahn of Whittier, California, and Andrew and Deanne Kahn of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also surviving are his daughter and husband Christine and Daniel O'Neil of Bakersfield, North Carolina, as well as his two sisters, Ada May Chinn of Sandston, Virginia, and Grace Lois Hitt of Portland, Oregon, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Eunice and his sons James David and Russell Allen Grave side services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. AT Woodlawn Cemetery with Pastor Dan Swan officiating. Military rites will be by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and St. Maries American Legion.
