Obituary of Eugene H. Barker

Gene was born July 14, 1924 to William and Frances (Hoffman) Barker in Sheridan Wyoming. He was raised in Wyoming and prior to WW II worked at several jobs throughout the Northwest. After Pearl Harbor, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a medic in the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. He was discharged in 1946 and returned home to Sheridan where he met and married Edith Erickson RN. He graduated from Denver University in 1950. He was recalled to active duty and served during the Korean War. Lt. Barker was separated from active service in 1954; he worked for several government agencies, the U.S. Army at Hanford Washington, NASA at Brooks Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, FAA in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and USPS Training Center in Norman, Oklahoma. Gene and Edith retired to St. Maries Idaho in 1975. Gene was preceded in death by his daughter Vicki Sue (1949), and Edith (2004). Eugene is survived by his sons: William Barker, Helena Mt, David Barker, St. Maries Idaho, Mark and wife Joan Barker, Norman Oklahoma. Member of St. Maries American Legion Post # 25, St. Maries, ID Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries, ID with Deacon Floyd Turner officiating.
