Obituary of Oscar O. Best

Rev. Oscar O. Best (96) of St. Maries, died January 30, 2012 at St. Maries, ID. He was born November 4, 1915 to Chester and Alice (Jeffrey) Best at Brewer, Arkansas. He grew up in Brewer and as a young man, he worked on the family farm. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in Panama , working as a baker sending bread to the ships in the Pacific. He was discharged in 1945. He returned to Arkansas following the War. He married Nellie Stark in 1946 in Arkansas. They moved to St. Maries permanently in 1955 following his siblings who came West before him. He worked in the woods for the Mueller Brothers and Robinson Brothers logging companies. In 1967 he went to work for Carney Pole Co. Oscar was divorced in 1970 and left for Los Angeles, CA where he attended Life Bible College. He was Ordained in 1974. He pastored the Foursquare Gospel Church in Caldwell, ID . He married Ida Dougherty in 1977 at Caldwell. He also worked for Ideal Trailers constructing travel trailers. He retired in the late 1990's . He moved to St. Maries in April of 2011. His wife died in September of 2011. Oscar enjoyed fishing and metal detecting. He was members of the Foursquare Church and the Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Cheryl Best of Spokane, WA. His daughters and sons-in-law Lou and Bill Mourning of St. Maries, ID. Barbi and Mike Luppino of Bremerton, WA and Judye Best of Port Townsend, WA. Also surviving are his brother Kenneth Best of Missouri and sisters Ada Linn of St. Maries, ID and Dana Davis of Arkansas. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by brothers Albert "Ab" and Jimmy Best and sisters Vergie Spier, Eula Davis, Bertha Moore and Effie Brewer. A celebration of his life will be held a 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Woodlawn Cemetery with Pastor Warren Law officiating and Military Honors Rendered. A celebration of his life will follow at the St. Maries Assembly of God church with an reception to follow services at the Church.
