Obituary of Marie Alena Carter
Marie Alena Carter (62) resident of Fernwood, ID, died from an apparent heart attack on September 24, 2014 while at hunting camp on Adair Creek, near the Little North Fork of the Clearwater river. She was born July 27, 1952 to Roy and Myrtis (Carrington) Cady at St. Maries, ID. Marie grew up in Fernwood and attended Upriver School. She then went on to St. Maries High School where she graduated with the class of 1970. In the summer of 1969, Marie worked as a cook for the U.S. Forest Service at Clarkia, ID. While there, she met Buddy Carter who was working as a fire fighter for the U.S. Forest Service. They were married on June 5, 1970 at St. Maries. They made their home in Moscow, ID where her husband was attending the U of I. In 1971, her husband went to basic training with the U.S. Army in South Carolina and she returned to Fernwood. The following year, she joined him in Atlanta, GA where he was stationed. In the fall of 1973, they moved to Deary, ID. While at Deary, her husband taught school and she helped farm and raise cattle. In 1986, Marie moved to Colville, WA where she was a homemaker. They left Colville in 1995 and moved to Palouse, WA where her husband was a teacher. Marie moved back to Fernwood in 2001 to care for her mother. Marie loved her grandchildren, she also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and riding four wheelers. She also enjoyed horseback riding, snowmobiling and taking pictures, lots and lots of pictures. Marie is survived by her husband at the family home in Fernwood. Her son and daughter-in-law B.J. and Shannon Carter of Rosalia, WA. Her brother and sister-in-law Bill and Hazel Cady of Kamiah, ID and two grandchildren Hailey and Hunter Carter of Rosalia, WA. Marie was preceded in death by both her parents. A potluck celebration of Marie's life will be on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. At the Garfield Legion Hall 112 W. Main Street, Garfield, WA.
