Obituary of David Batman Meshell

David A. "Batman" Meshell (61) resident of St. Maries, ID died Feb. 5, 2011 at St. Maries. He was born Dec. 4, 1950 to Samuel and Mary (Pierre) Meshell at Newport, WA. A member of the Kalispel Tribe. David grew up on the Kalispel reservation. He attended grade schools in Cusick , WA and received his secondary schooling in the Tri-Cities. His High School years were at Lapwai, ID where he lived with his father. Following graduation, he attended Voc-Tec School at North Idaho College. David worked on the Kalispel reservation helping attend to the Buffalo herd. He also worked as a sawyer in the woods. David enjoyed his time working at Sacred Heart Mission Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Connolly S.J. He helped with grounds keeping and attending to the tribal cemetery. He has been a resident of Valley Vista Care Center for the past 10 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as smoking venison and fish. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He is survived by his daughter Davenia Arlene Meshell of Worley, ID, his sisters Sylvia Meshell of Usk, WA and Ima Meshell-Galler of Cusick, WA. Also surviving are ½ brothers Neal and Samway Meshell and Chuck Axtell all of Lapwai, ID. He is also survived by one grand-daughter Violet Andrew. Rosary will be recited Tuesday Feb. 7, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. At Rose Creek Longhouse, Worley, ID. Rosary will also be recited Wed. Feb. 8th at 7:00 p.m. And Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday Feb. 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. both at the Kalispel Comm. Bldg, Usk, WA. Interment will follow at Kalispel Cemetery 2, Usk, WA with a meal to follow back at the Community Bldg.
