Obituary of Roy W. Harris
Roy W. Harris (74) resident of Parkline near St. Maries, died October 17, 2014 at Hospice House of North Idaho. He was born Jan. 31, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah. When Roy was seven years old, he and his brother were adopted by Eldon and Faye Harris. He grew up and lived on the family farm in Lovell, WY. As a young man, Roy served briefly in the U.S. Navy. He married Cathy Rech in 1962 and they had one son. Roy moved to Seattle, WA in 1965. He was divorced in 1966. Roy worked in Seattle as a sheet metal worker in construction. He was involved in the construction of the Seattle Kingdome as well as other local commercial properties. In January of 1980, Roy fell off a roof and broke his back. He then became disabled. Roy married Sandi Sullivan on Sept. 24, 1982 in Seattle. They lived in Kent, WA before moving to Sallisaw, OK. After a brief stay there, he moved to St. George, UT. While living in St. George, he and his wife served a 3 year mission for the L.D.S. Church. Following the mission, they moved to Apple Valley, UT and operated the Weston Motel in Hurricane, UT for 10 years. While managing the motel, they built their home there. When it was completed, they retired. Roy purchased property at Parkline, near St. Maries in 2002 and they move there in 2005. His wife died in 2008. One of the biggest struggles Roy faced in his life was to be worthy enough to be a part of his church. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, and church activities. He also had a passion for wielding and working with metal. Roy is survived by son Roger Harris of Fairplay, CO and daughter and son-in-law Anne and Kerry Blair of Tukwila, WA and daughter Cheryl Williams of Spokane Valley, WA. Also surviving are his sister RosaLee Wertz of Salt Lake City, UT, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Connie. Roy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, St. Maries Ward. His services will be held there on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Wes Lewis conducting. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife. A gathering of family and friends will follow back at the church.
