Obituary of Wilbur F. Mourning
Wilbur F. Mourning (97) longtime St. Maries, ID resident, died Nov. 29, 2014 at his home in St. Maries. He was born June 11, 1917 to Clarence and Hazel (Scott) Mourning at Sanders, ID. He grew up in Emida, ID. As many young men of his generation, he left school to go to work. His first job was cutting firewood and selling it at Santa, ID. In the Mid-1930's, Wilbur went to work for Boutillier Logging. He married Charlotte Sweeney on Oct. 20, 1940 at St. Maries. They made their home at Emida. He worked for Savy Procopio as a mechanic and log truck driver. Wilbur moved to St. Maries in 1950. In 1958, Wilbur drove log truck for Jess Whitehead, hauling off of Reed's Baldy. In 1962, he went to work for Benewah County on the road crew. He became foreman the following year. Wilbur retired from the county road crew in 1982. He continued working for the county at the land fill. He worked there 10 additional years. Wilbur's wife died in 2007. Wilbur enjoyed fishing and camping. He also enjoyed traveling, taking his travel trailer on many trips. His favorite enjoyment was listening to his son Buck play music with his band. Wilbur is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Chuck and Lynn Mourning and Bill and Lou Mourning all of St. Maries. His daughter-in-law Margaret Mourning of St. Maries and 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sons Robert "Buck" Mourning, Jim Mourning and step-son B.J. Vandevander. Also preceding him in death are brother Lloyd "Jim" Mourning and sisters Clara Hanley and Wilma "Toots" McClurg. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodge Funeral Home with Rev. Warren Law officiating.
