Obituary of Mamie Katherine Resor

Mamie K. Resor (95) lifetime resident of St. Maries, ID died Feb. 25, 2010 at her daughter's home at St. Maries following an extended illness. She was born August 7, 1914 to Edwin and Ella (Cavanaugh) Mottern at Plummer, ID She moved from Plummer with her family to Seattle, WA in 1919 where she attended kindergarten. The family returned to Plummer in the early 1920's and Mamie attended school by riding in a wagon. In the winter time there was a pot belly stove on the wagon to keep everyone warm. She moved to St. Maries in 1926 and was graduated from St. Maries High School with the class of 1932. As a young woman, she went to work for J.M. Robinson at his clothing store. In 1938, she went to work for GTE as a switchboard operator, and made $ .32 cents an hour. She also served as Noble Grand of the Rebecca Lodge that same year. In 1940, she went to work for Mr. Radford at J.C. Penny Co. She moved to Colorado in August of 1942 and was married to Stanley Resor there on August 22. They stayed in Colorado for a few months before returning to St. Maries. They spent two years at Ft. Lewis, WA where her husband was a guard for German prisoners of War. They finally moved back to St. Maries in 1945. After her children were born, she was a stay at home mom. She became very active in her kids activities. In the 1950's, she was a Den Mother for her son Andy's Cub Scouts . In 1957 and later she became a Blue Bird Leader and Camp Fire Leader for her daughter and friends. In 1959, she started to work for Davis and Link Clothing in St. Maries. She worked for Mr. Davis and Matt Moshinsky for 17 years and Sarah Mason for 10 years. She later worked part time for Schumackers Jewelry Store. She was a member of the St. Maries Community Presbyterian Church where she served on many committees. She was active in many organizations in her lifetime. In 1946 she joined the American Legion Auxiliary and held all offices including President three times. In 1949, she joined a branch of the Legion Auxiliary called the 8 and 40 Club of which she was a 51 year member. In 1954 she began as a counselor for the Syringa Girls State Program and served as a Director in 1962. Other memberships include the Order of Eastern Star which she joined in 1966. She served as Worthy Matron, held the office of Conductress, Associate Matron, Chaplain and Treasurer. She also belonged to the Grand Representative's Org. and was a Grand Representative for Louisana. She belonged to the St. Maries Mothers Club and the DN Bridge Club (Dirty Nine) named for the founding members. In 1972 she started working for the American Cancer Society and worked 25 years for the program. Her husband died in 1986 on their 44th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Andy and Lezle Resor of Renton, WA Her daughter and son-in-law Candy and Lonny Pugh of St. Maries. Also surviving are her grandchildren Alyson McLean, Kimberly Behymer, Jenny Abell and John Pugh. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and a niece and nephews. Graveside committal services will be held Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. At Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries, ID. A celebration of her life will be held following that at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church with Reverands Gary Foster and Spike Shine officiating. A gathering and lunch will follow the services at the Church's Fellowship Hall.
