Obituary of Mary Ellen Sharp-Michael

Mary Ellen Sharp Michael (93) long time St. Maries area resident, died April 13, 2010 at Spokane, WA She was born October 15, 1916 to Albert and Winifred (Harman) Erickson at Riverdale, Nebraska. She grew up at Riverdale and graduated from High School there with the class of 1934. As a young woman, she worked as a “ hired girl” to help out busy mothers who worked on area farms. She married Herbert Sharp on June 24, 1936 at Columbus, NE She moved to Nebraska City, NE in 1938 where she was a homemaker and raised her family of five boys and one girl. During the War years, she worked for a local hotel kitchen, an appliance store and a shirt factory. She also worked at a poultry processing plant. In 1959 she moved to Omaha, NE where she worked as an inspector for a Pepsi Cola plant. She moved to St. Maries, ID in 1972. She and her husband worked as school custodians until 1978. Her husband died in 1987. She married Keith Michael on Dec. 20, 1988 at Fernwood, ID He died in 1998. She moved to Spokane, WA on October of that year, returning to St. Maries in 2002. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, putting together scrapbooks and music. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed gardening, raising house plants and growing flowers. She is survived by her son's and daughters-in-law David and Sharon Sharp of St. Maries and Gale and Jennifer Sharp of Spokane, WA Also surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Loren Shepherd of Tabor, Iowa and brother Bryce Erickson of Carney , NE. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons Herbert Jr., Charles and Jack D. Sharp, one grandaughter and 2 great grandchidren as well as brothers Bud and Carroll Erickson. Graveside committal services will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. At Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries with Pastor Larry Stogsdill officiating.
