Obituary of Helen Marie Long

Helen Marie Long (68) resident of St. Maries, died July 2, 2010 at St. Maries. She was born July 23, 1941, the youngest of 8 children to Howard and Elma (Holbrook) Wood at Spokane, WA. She grew up in the Cheney/Amber, WA area. As a young woman, she lived in Sutherland, OR. She married Robert C. Mahurin Sr. in 1967 at Coeur d' Alene, ID. They made their home at Metaline Falls, WA . Mr. Mahurin died in 1969. Helen had two subsequent marriages which ended in divorce. She moved to St. Maries inl 1984 and worked as a bartender for the Lucky Duck Tavern. She moved to Lewiston, ID and later Payette, ID before returning to St. Maries in 1993. She then worked for P.J.'s Lounge as a bartender. She retired in 2000. She was a member of the St. Maries Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing darts, horseback riding, blueback fishing and picking huckleberries. She is survived by her son Robert C. Mahurin Jr. of St. Maries and daughter and son-in-law Mary and John Ohlson of St. Maries. She is also survived by sisters Lenora and husband Dale Hilberg of Smelterville, ID and Elsie Burdett of Sutherland, OR. Also surviving are 6 Grandchildren and 1 great grandson. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters. A Memorial service may be held at a later date to be announced.
