In SEP 2023, I went to Hills X,Y and Z...followed by going into the dugouts in the deep draw at Castle Ahginolfi, Italy. Seeing most and understanding all, LT Baker certainly won his MoH from my point of view! A salute and RIP, Steve, MAJ USA

Vernon was a kind, gentle gentleman in the days I worked with him in the early '70's. He was a Field Officer for the American Red Cross at Ft. Ord Army Base. I was not aware at the time that Vernon was a Buffalo Soldier. It makes me sad that he was not acknowledged all those years. You are truly my hero, my friend! Many Blessings.

I did not know him but all the brave men who fought and died, who put their lives on the line, how can you not but be so very grateful. I am so happy he got the recognition he so deserved. thnk you Bill Clinton and those who realized the injustice. A man can fight but not be awarded what he deserves.

I scheduled a trip to Couer D'Alene, from Kansas City for July 24th and hoped to meet Mr. Baker on that trip. I missed the opportunity to get an autographed copy of his book by days... Never forget him. Never forget the WWII Vets. They lived a hell this world has never seen. I hope to see you on the other side. Many thanks for what you did.

To the family of Mr. Vernon Baker: Please accept our sincere condolences for your loss. May you find comfort knowing that by means of GodâÂ(TM)s Kingdom, all human suffering and even death will one day be completely removed! (Please read 1 Corinthians 15:25; Isaiah 25:8; Revelation 21:4)
As for our loved ones who are now sleeping in death, the King of GodâÂ(TM)s Kingdom, Jesus Christ, has promised that he will raise these ones back to life on earth; and restore humans and the entire earth to their originally designed perfect condition. (Please read Acts 24:15; John 5:25-30; John 11:11-44; Job 33:25; Genesis 1:28; Matthew 5:5; Psalm 37: 10, 11, 29; John 3:16; Romans 6:23; Isaiah 9:7)
May these scriptural promises comfort, strengthen, and sustain you during this difficult time. With heartfelt sympathy for your loss, Mr. & Mrs. F. Weston (Beaverg2009@yahoo.com)

As a career Army veteran I met Mr. Baker about ten years ago when he came to Colorado State University to speak about his life and his autobiography - Lasting Valor - of which I have a signed copy. I was struck by his character and humility and the sense that he carried the loss of his fellow soldiers with him for an entire lifetime. His humble and parentless upbringing as a young black man in Cheyenne,Wyoming; Nebraska and Iowa at a time when blacks were viewed as second class citizens should be an inspiration to all who have suffered from discrimination. He is by all counts a true American hero - may he rest in peace.

When the Boise Rescue Mission dedicated 19 rooms for homeless Veterans, we named each room in honor of, or in memory of an Idaho Veteran, or a veteran with strong Idaho ties. Needless to say, Lt. Baker was selected and a room named in his honor.
His family has lost a devoted man, America has lost a Patriot, but heaven is now more secure than ever.
God bless the family and friends left behind, and God receive and care for Vernon Baker.

I was privileged to meet Mr. Baker when he was honored in Olympia WA after finally receiving the Medal of Honor - 50+ years overdue. He was an inspiration to many of us who learned of his accomplishments.
