Obituary of Jack D. Coy

Jack D. Coy (73) resident of Fernwood, ID died July 30, 2010 at St. Maries, ID He was born February 1, 1937 to Herbert and Lola (Wilson) Coy at Sturgis, S.D. He grew up at Sturgis and left school early to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1953 and returned to South Dakota. He managed an ambulance service and went on to receive Para-medic training in Minnesota. He married Rita Lineback on Sept. 14, 1963 at Rapid City, where they made their home. They moved to Denver, CO in 1967. He went to work for Denver General Hospital in 1968. He was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis, was forced into disability retirement later that same year and moved back home to Rapid City with his family. In 1969, he moved to Bonners Ferry, ID and operated a Saddle and Tack shop. He moved to Seattle, WA in 1976 where he continued to operate another Saddle Shop. He could build anything out of leather and other materials. After his wife retired, they both moved to Fernwood where he continued to make saddles. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed dancing and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Rita at the family home in Fernwood. His sons Bob Coy of Scott, LA and Jack (Jaleta) Coy of Puyallup, WA also surviving are daughters Bonnie Fitch of Pensacola, FL , Kelli (Jon) Beauchman of Fernwood, ID and Traci (Stacy) Krueger of Santa, ID. He is also survived by sisters Dorothea Brown of Rapid City, S.D. And Arlene Hormel of Silverdale, WA as well as 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. And several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters Elaine Moore and Vivian Underwood. A celebration of his life will be Wed. Aug. 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. At Hodge Funeral Home with Pastor Pat Waters officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Benedictine Hall 239 S. 10th, St. Maries. The family suggests memorials to the Fernwood Fire Dept. c/o Jay Trueman P.O.
