Obituary of Donald A. Johnson
Donald Allen Johnson passed away March 16, 2012 at the age of 82, peacefully at home. He was born September 25th, 1929 in Potlatch, ID to Stella Patterson and Clarence "Rusty" Johnson. He moved back to St. Maries, with his parents as a small child. He spent his childhood growing up in St. Maries where he graduated with the Class of 1950. He was active in sports in high school where he was named All Conference Football Player 2 years in a row and he was also a 2 year Golden Glove Boxer. He was drafted in the US Army in 1951 during the Korean War. He served in Germany on the supply line. When he was discharged from the service, he returned to St. Maries where he married his lifelong partner Stella Martinez on June 6, 1953. She passed away on June 11, 2010. Don was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Don was a life member of the St. Maries Elks Club and served as an officer. He was a City Councilman for the City of St. Maries. Early on, he also worked part time as a Deputy Sheriff for long time friend Bob Baltz. Don retired from Potlatch Corporation in 1988. He and his wife Stella enjoyed their retirement by traveling and spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Don is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Renee' and Jamie Odom of Post Falls, ID, Anita and John Porter of Chicago, ILL, son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Carey Johnson of St. Maries, his aunt Irene Johnson of Dallas, OR, numerous cousins. Don had 5 grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Tori, Clark and Tedi, Kaye. He also had 9 great grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick, David, Jon-Jon, Marissa, JayLynn, Hannah, Nate and Harley Rosella Mae which he enjoyed thoroughly. There will be a celebration of Don's life Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Tony and Carey's River Lot on the St. Joe River begining at 3:00 p.m..
