Obituary of Michael J. Howland
Michael J. Howland (53) long time St. Maries resident, died April 22, 2011 at Spokane, WA. following a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. He was born October 24, 1957 to Ralph and Rosemary (Minor) Howland at Garden Grove, CA. As a child, he moved with his family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from North-Linn High School at Coggon, IA with the Class of 1976. He was very active in high school sports. He played basketball, football, and baseball. He moved to St .Maries, ID in 1977 and began working at the St. Maries Complex of Potlatch Corp. He worked as a boiler operator. He coached little league baseball for some years and was the asst. coach for the High School and Legion baseball teams for a number of years. He married Brenda Anderson on May 29, 1982. They were later divorced. Mike enjoyed playing and watching sports. He played on men�(TM)s league basketball teams as well as softball teams. He also enjoyed golf. He really enjoyed hunting and fishing trips , spending time with his 1 year old twin grandsons Braylon and Kaden Howland along with family and numerous friends. Mike was an avid Seattle Mariner fan and he and his son Bryan made several trips to Seattle to watch them play. His illness forced him to quit his position with Potlatch in 2011. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Ashley Howland of Lewiston, ID . His father Ralph Howland of St. Maries and mother Rosemary Howland in California. He is also survived by his twin grandsons. He was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy Howland in 1972. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday May 7th at The St. Maries Eagles Lodge at 2:00 p.m..
