Obituary of Lois M. Renfrew
Lois Marie (McCarty) Renfrew "Booie" Lois Renfrew, 88, a longtime Plummer resident, died May 12, 2011. She was born April 4, 1923 to H. Ray and Marie (Underwood) McCarty in Spokane, WA. She grew up in Plummer, ID as well as graduated from Plummer High School in 1941. After High School, Lois went on to attend U of I in Moscow, ID, where she met and married James "Jim" Lee Renfrew on August 29, 1942. They lived in Moscow where they farmed before moving back to Plummer in 1946. Together they owned and operated Plummer Variety Store for five years. Lois drove school bus for the Plummer School District for nine years and later worked at the Benewah County Extension Office from 1960 to 1965. Lois then worked at the Benewah County Assessor's Office as a Deputy Assessor for eight years before being elected Benewah County Assessor in 1973. She retired as the assessor in April 1985. Lois was a past Treasurer of both Business and Professional Women and Idaho Association of County Assessors, as well as a member of Royal Neighbors of America. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling in their motor-home. She was also a very enthusiastic football (Seahawks), basketball (Gonzaga), and baseball (Mariners) fan. Much of her time was spent watching games and reading books. Lois had a great love for her family and was actively involved with all of them. She is survived by son Douglas Renfrew and wife Marilee of Coeur d' Alene; and daughter-in-law Nancy Renfrew of Plummer. Also surviving are her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kellee Johnson of Plummer and daughters Ashlee and Jennifer; Tony Renfrew and wife Becky of Hauser Lake, and sons Kyle and Gage; Fauna Medley and husband Clint of Caldwell, and daughters Hailey and Casidey; Warren "Butch" Renfrew and wife Michelle of St. Maries, and sons Warren and Zack; Jody Renfrew of Post Falls; and Andy Renfrew of Post Falls. In addition, she is survived by two nieces, Margy Wolf of Salem, Oregon and Adele Young and husband Hughey of Wasco, California; as well as nephew Brian West and wife Tina of Portland, Oregon. She is preceded in death by her parents, H. Ray and Marie (Underwood) McCarty; husband of 55 years, James Renfrew; son Wesley Renfrew; and three sisters Esther Brown, Elizabeth "Betty" West, and Marian Daman. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday May 22, 2011at the Plummer Cemetery. Following the service, at 12 p.m., family and friends will be gathering at the Plummer Senior Citizen Center for a potluck dinner.
