Sergeant Major Dunow; What a man! What a Marine! I first met Fritz in Korea in 1952, he was a Master Sergeant, I was a Staff Sergeant. After Korea we took different paths in the Marine Corps, and my next duty with him was in Viet Nam in 1966. He was a Sergeant Major and I was a Master Sergeant. After we both had retired from the Corps we next met in Santa when my wife Evelyn and I were motorcycling through Idaho and we stopped in for an impromptu visit. Fritz and Jan welcomed us like long lost friends and were most gracious.
You are gone Fritz, but never forgotten..

As a child I always thought of Uncle Fritz as a giant of a man.
My fondness memory was in listening to stories he told of his military service during the war.
My sympathy's to the family.

I was sure sorry to hear about Uncle Fritz passing away. As said before, Uncle Fritz was a great story teller. I remember as kid in Northern Wisconsin and when Uncle Fritz would come to visit. We all looked forward to the visit. When I grew up and got married I had the opportunity to travel to Santa, Idaho from Los Angeles to help clear some of his property near the river. He would always talk about the Marines and always had some funny stories to tell. I still have the very colorful silk jacket he gave me that was from Japan. My last visit to Santa was short visit as I had to pick up a prisoner from the jail in Saint Maries on an extradition to Colorado. I had to fly to Spokane and then drive to Santa. When I got to his home he had supper ready and then we talked the rest of the night. It was a short nights sleep as I had to pick up the prisoner the following morning and head back to Colorado. I remember the painted picture he received from his men when he had to leave Viet Nam sick. He had it hung on the wall near his back door, about the toughest Marine in the valley. Rest in Peace Uncle. John Dunow

How sad I was to hear of Mr. D's passing.
What an amazing man he was! No one could tell a story like him! I will always remember the summers in Idaho before we moved across the highway in Santa. My brother and I would fish the river and he was forever sending me after things.....so Mr. D gave me the nickname of Gopher! My heart goes out to you all.
Love and prayers

Uncle Fritz was my favorite uncel. When I was in my teens, he would come visit our family almost every year for deer season, and that meant Uncle Ftitz's story telling time. I would invite my friends over just to hear his stories, and laugh and laugh and laugh. I've only met a couple people in my life that could keep kids entertained for long periods of time, and that was Uncle Fritz and my wife's late dad Bill Ramsey. They both had similar backgrounds and could both relive their earlier days in ways that would keep us on the edge of our seats.
We have lost a great man at this time, as well as my Uncle Harvey and my dad Bill Dunow. My prayers are with all our families that we can continue to share the memories of those who are no longer with us.
