Obituary of Kathrine Nickeita Ream
Kathrine N. "Kitty" Ream (78) longtime St. Maries area resident, died October 16, 2011 at Spokane, WA following a lengthy battle with kidney disease. She was born April 7, 1933 to Nick and Pearl (Hearn) Andrews at Mapleton, OR She moved to Veneta, OR with her family when she was in the 5th grade. It was in that elementary school, she met and fell in love with her future husband Harold Ream. She graduated from Veneta High School with the class of 1951. She and Harold Ream were married on April 5, 1952 at Veneta where they made their home. They moved to Lorane, OR. Where Kitty was busy raising her family, teaching Sunday School and and playing the piano at church. She also was a 4-H leader for several years. In 1973 she moved to Calder, ID where she was active in community affairs. Kitty was an EMT and worked with the Calder Ambulance for many years. She taught kindergarten for 3 years and was a teachers aide for 3 more years all at the Calder School. She loved children. She later worked at the Calder Store and the Big Eddy Store. Kitty and Harold moved to St. Maries in 1986. Her husband died in 1995. She had a brief marriage to Dewey Alsop which ended in divorce. She and Dewey remained good friends and enjoyed outings together. Kitty loved to bake and loved people. She enjoyed playing the piano at the Senior Meal Site. She took joy in baking cookies and sending them to working mothers. She spent many hours in her flower garden and enjoyed blessing people with a bouquet. Kitty is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Rosalee and Jim Greer and Wendy and Cary Allen all of St. Maries, ID. She is also survived by her brother Henry Sindt and wife Joyce of St. Maries, ID. Also surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law Violet and Rich Dunn of The Dalles, OR and Stella and Butch Derry of St. Maries, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sons Matthew in 1985 and Harold Ream Jr. in 1986. She was also preceded in death by brothers Johnnie, Oliver, and Nick as well as sisters Opal, Dorris, Betty, Alice and Anna. She was also preceded in death by twin grandsons. A celebration of her life will be Friday, October 21, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. At the St. Maries Church of the Nazarene 175 Grandview Dr. with Rev. Parker McNeill officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the Church Gymnasium.
