Obituary of Robert Lee Wofford

Robert Lee Wofford (80) resident of St. Maries, ID died October 19, 2011 at St. Maries, ID. He was born September 8, 1931 to Vernon and Maybelle (Pipkin) Wofford at Yoakum, TX. The family later moved to California, where Bob graduated from Long Beach High School with the class of 1949. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Maries Corps. He served his country in many places including Korea in 1950, Washington, D.C., Japan, Camp Pendleton and later served with the Battalion Afloat in S.E. Asia where he was stationed in the Philippines, Taipei, Formosa, Hong Kong and Viet Nam. His final duty station was El Toro where he was discharged in 1965. While in the service, he met his first wife Jacqueline Shupe (also a Marine) and they were married in 1952. The marriage produced one child Robin and the marriage ended in 1954. Bob owned a service station and auto repair in So. California, St. Maries, ID and Moscow, ID He loved cars, mostly " fast muscle cars" all his life and it showed in the quality of his work. Later in his life. Bob found a new calling as the Pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Bovill, ID. He served this congregation for over 18 years and touched many lives. Bovill was a mission receiving church when he started in 1991. It has evolved into a mission giving church raising money on their own and doing extra projects. The congregation traveled to Mexico to build a house for a poor family. They have been doing this and many other mission giving projects for 10 years. Bob loved his church and it's loving people. He will be remembered by his family as a strong, often kind, generous, caring and always stubborn man with a booming voice and a commanding presence. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bob is survived by his companion Barbara Johnston of St. Maries. His daughter Robin and her husband Bob Bjurstrom of Turner, OR His adopted children Yvonne Dingman of Coeur d' Alene and Brian Wofford of California. Also surviving are ½ sister Karen Holland of Long Beach, CA and 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sister Elyse Kerce. His life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bovill Community Presbyterian Church.
