"An Ode To Bob Marzulli"
The Summer of '52,
Bob Marzulli was "thinking life through",
---on the corner of Ninth & Main.
When along came four guys,
who thought "Let's Surprise",
and "Jumped" Bob---all in vain!
Bob backed-up to the column,
in front of "Murphy's Corner" Store,
He grabbed two by the neck,
and slammed them into two more,
Dean Murphy came out to help,
but Bob had already "settled the score"!
He and Jack Fountain Co-Managed,
the St.Maries Basketball Team,
with their teamwork, it made
a hard task much easier--it seemed!
His devotion over many years,
to various sports and teaching,
guided many a young person on a path,
that was inspiring & far-reaching!
Bob was a "God-Fearing" man,
and with life's rules was always compliant,
We're not losing just a teacher and coach,
but, to those that knew him--a "Gentle Giant"!

To a friendly, caring, loving man who made sports fun and cared about everyone around him, especially the kids, he will be missed. I remember when he painted the ceiling of of the hayburn gym when I was in high school and he was my football coach. he made the hard work fun. To a great man, love him and will miss him.

St. Maries lost a great man. Bob was one of my favorite teachers, a gentle Giant. I really enjoyed playing football for that man. I hadn't seen him since leaving St.Maries in 1976, and yet he still remembered me at our 30 yr reunion in 2009. This world could use a whole lot more like coach Marz.

About 1954 Marz became my American Legion coach and has been my coach and mentor ever since. Marz was not only a coach but a wonderful friend who loved to beat my butt in golf every time I made it to SM. I've never met anyone so giving and supporting of all SM athletic programs. We'll never forget ya Marz ol buddy.

Marz,
Just sitting here remembering all the fun we had over the years. The memories are endless, the countless football games we went to,we never missed a Vandal home game in six years, the football trips to Reno, the fishing trips and of course the Mariners games. Vicki,Dana and I will always remember the many Thanksgivings we spent with you.
You made a huge impact on all of our lives.I will see you again.Save me a seat on the 50 yard line, close to the concession stand.

Marz -- I was a member of Marz' first teams 57 years ago, the Braves in baseball, the "Mob" in football, and his basketball teams throughout elementary and jr. high.
Why did he start so many youth teams/leagues? The obvious, he loved sports as both a youth and adult. But, the more revealing reason was his love for kids. He wanted us to enjoy life; so he gave what he could to each of us - his time, knowledge, and love. Out of these gifts he helped to transform the lives of many of us, so that we could give back to our communities and to the children we are blessed to meet and work with.
Marz made a difference in my life. I consider him a mentor, friend, and one of the 10 most influential people to have touched my life.
I hope to see you soon Marz. With Jesus you will already have teams formed. Save a spot for me!

Just a note of thanks from another of the dozens of kids who rolled through Marz's mob in the 60's. He gave lots to the kids and the town. Good guy.

My deepest thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time. "Marz" was a pillar of the community, and his legend will never fade away. My grandkids, and future generations will know just what an impact he had on St. Maries. I am truly saddened at his passing, but I know he is in Heaven, pain free, and smiling down on everyone. Rest in Peace "Marz".

Thank-you Marz for everything you've done for St. Maries. Lots of memories Bob, from always seeing you at the Little League games, to out at the golf course, in the halls at high school, and at the Elks. I feel honored to have simply been in your presence. You are an inspiration to youth and adults throughout Benewah County. The Lord certainly blessed us all when he sent you our way. I salute you.
