Obituary of Albert F. Buck

Albert F. "Porky" Buck (62) longtime St. Maries area resident, died peacefully at his home on Dec. 4, 2011 following a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born Feb. 8, 1949 to Oran and Emma Ruth (Bell) Buck Sr. at Hoot Owl Holler in Jellico, TN at his grandmothers home. He was nicknamed "Porky" due to his 11 lbs birth weight. Al grew up at Oakridge, TN and graduated from High School there (where he excelled in sports) with the class of 1967. He received a full ride football scholarship to the University of Tenn. He left school his sophomore year when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam and Cambodia. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and returned to Oakridge, TN He moved to Blackfoot, ID in 1973. He married Linda Shuler on Sept. 15, 1976 at Blackfoot. They moved to the Benewah Valley near St. Maries, ID in 1977. Al worked as a General Contractor for himself as well as a sub-contractor for other area building contractors. He was a cement finisher and also built custom homes. He was divorced from Linda in 2001 and they re-married in 2007. Al retired in June of 2009. He enjoyed walleye fishing as well as hunting. He had a passion for woodworking and when he was younger, he played in the St. Maries Men's Basketball League. Al was a lifetime member of the NRA. A member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Linda at the family home. His daughter and son-in-law Nicolette and Joshua Lewis of St. Maries and brothers Oran Buck Jr. and wife Donna of Miami, FL, Ronnie Buck and wife Kim of Knoxville, TN and brother Steve Buck of Oakridge, TN. Al is also survived by grandaughters Gabrielle, Olivia and Jaelyn Lewis all of St. Maries as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Al told all his family and friends that "If anything happened to him, he had no regrets and had lived a good life." Al chose to have a celebration of his life and friendships with his family and close friends while he could participate . No further services are planned. The family suggests memorial contributions to either the NRA or Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
