Katherine was a Mom to so many. She always had a smile on her face, even when Sue would unexpectantly bring friends home for lunch. I think it was your house where I learned that grilled cheese and tomato soup always went together :). Dick and Katherine would always take a stray friend in and your house was always so welcoming. Since your neighborhood was so center to everything, I think your home was always the meeting place for everyone. Always people coming and going and bustling with energy. So many fond memories with all of your family and I am guessing so many children growing up in St. Maries were a part of that. Thank you for helping to raise all of the McFadden friends.
My thoughts go out to all of the family.

To "The Kids" and Dick,
Condolences to you all for the great loss of your mother. She was a GREAT lady, mother and wife. You all were such wonderful neighbors, and we were all so lucky to be such close " forever" friends and neighbors. Even into adulthood, and with many years of absence in not seeing one another, you still always really KNOW the people you grow up with, and the great people they are!! We all hope to run into you from time to time and remember......! Smiles, happiness, and fond memories of the McFadden family.
P.S. Thanks to Dick and family for always taking the two little Craner brats, Becky and Billie, golfing!!! Mom and dad, also, thought the world of you!!!
Love Becky and Steve Hovey

Dear Dick, Patrick, Mary Kay, Betsy,Susan and Barbara,
My deepest sympathy to you at the death of Katherine! Carol Wilson sent me the news and the Obituary. I so much remember your family and the goodness that was part of you all. I remember your Mom being such a conscientious mother and loving to her kids. The biggest thing I remember though is how worried your dear Mom was when I didn't have any complaints about the three I taught at report card time.
Dick, my special sympathy to you! How are you doing? Patrick, you are the one holding down the fort at St. Maries, eh? Mary Kay Perry-- how do you like living in MA? I lived in Boston for 2 years about 20 years ago. I'm so grateful for the experience! Is Needham close to Boston? Betsy, do you remember when you were dressed like St. Elizabeth with you basket of food? You were sooo cute! You live in Boise, eh? And Susan and Barbara, you are in Spokane, eh? Again, my deepest sympathy. S. Corinne

My sincere thoughts and prayers are with all of the family at this difficult time.
Warm memories came pouring in when I read of your dear mother's passing. These memories are of the warm smiles and encouraging words of her telling all the kids to have a good day at school as we all headed out the door each morning for high school. The McFadden house was totally the gathering, morning hub of the SMHS in the late 70's. Katherine always made everyone feel welcome. It was just a few weeks ago that I was telling my grandson (a 1st grader) the story of walking up the alley, after getting off the bus, to the McFadden house and meeting friends to walk on up the hill to school.
Cherish all the wonderful memories that your mother has graced you with, they will be with you forever.
Sincerely, Shasta Burns

My father, Jack Hartnett and I have fond memories of Katherine. She was a gracious and kind person.
Mrs. McFadden was my Campfire Girl leader and I babysat for the children. My Dad, Jack, and Mother, Bette were good friends of Katherine and Dick. My Dad remembers enjoying their company at the Elks. Dad just recalled a story of an evening when he and my Mom, gave Katherine a ride home from a Bridge game but she could not get into the house. Dad said they all were laughing and throwing pebbles at the bedroom window to wake Dick.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the McFadden family.

Katherine was one of the most gracious ladies I have ever known. Her smile would light up the whole room. She loved her family and was always so happy when they came home. She and Dick had a wonderful marriage that lasted until the end. She loved her home and the robins in her tree outside. It was so fitting that on the morning after she passed the tree was filled with robins as if to say goodbye. Thank you for allowing me to be part of her life

Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your dear Katherine. I always enjoyed listening to her and my grandmas conversations when she came over to visit. And I have to say I'll never forget her keeping on eye on my brother and I playing in the alley when we were little. :)
Such a sweet lady. God bless her and all of you at this time of sorrow. She will be missed, but the memories of her will never be lost.
