Obituary of Julia Betty Irvine
Julia Elizabeth "Betty" Irvine (90) Lifetime St. Maries resident , died April 15, 2012 at St. Maries, ID. She was born April 22, 1921 to Edgar and Julia (Robins) Covey at St. Maries. Betty grew up in Bozeman, MT. She graduated from High School there with the class of 1939. She returned to St. Maries following graduation. She married Sam Irvine on Sept. 4, 1941 at St. Maries. She worked as a waitress at the Parkline Supper Club. Betty also served as City of St. Maries Police Judge while her husband served as Benewah County Magistrate. In the 1970's, she returned to waitress work. Her husband was injured in a logging accident in 1948 and became a paraplegic . As his partner in life, Betty also was his caregiver until his death in 1984. In 1989, She realized her dream and opened the Appletree Resturant on Main Street. She sold the business in 1992 and retired. Betty enjoyed cooking and was known for her pies. Betty was a member of the Community Presbyterian. Her other community involvement included memberships in the American Legion Auxiliary. The St. Maries Ladies of Elks and the Eagles Auxiliary as well as the 40 and 8 Club. Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in law Carol and Merle Humphrey of St. Maries, . Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband in 1984, son Larry Irvine, daughter Sandy Irvine and brothers Bob, Orie, Donald, Myron and Ed Covey and sisters Ester Humphrey, Anna Haynes and Ellen Fortyne. A celebration of her life will be Monday, April 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Comm. Presbyterian Church with Rev. A.J. Anderson officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Woodlawn Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the Presbyterian Church.
