Obituary of Mary Lynne Becktel

Mary L. Becktel (69) lifetime resident of St. Maries, died February 19, 2015 at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’ Alene, ID. She was born December 27, 1945 to Erling “Ling” and Martha (Laws) Moe at St. Maries. Mary grew up in St. Maries and graduated from St. Maries High School with the class of 1964. She played clarinet in high school for 4 years. Mary also taught herself to play the piano. Following her graduation from high school, Mary worked at her dad’s restaurant, The Big Eddy Resort up the St. Joe River. She met Gary Becktel while working at the restaurant when he would stop there to eat. They were married on December 11, 1964 in Coeur d’ Alene, ID. Mary was a homemaker. In 1967, their son Kenneth was born. Mary worked as a bookkeeper for Gary Becktel Trucking. She also helped manage the Big Eddy Resort when her father became ill and also raised her son. Mary was part of a bridge club that played once a week. She was very involved with her grandchildren and loved attending their sporting events. Mary lived for the river and working in her yard attending to her flowers. Her home always looked beautiful. Mary’s husband Gary died in 2007. Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Kenny and Michelle Becktel of St. Maries and her step-daughter and husband Nancy Jo and Lee Williams of Spokane, WA. Her brother and sister-in-law John and Cindy Moe of Avery, ID. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alan Jess (AJ), Nancy, Randie, Brandon, Caelyn, Jordyn, and great grandchild Jeden. Mary is preceded in death by her father and mother, Erling Christian Moe and Martha Gray Laws; her husband Gary, a brother Erling Christian Moe Jr, and two sisters, Bobbie (Moe) Pendell, Martha Susan (Moe) Peters), and Christine (Moe) Stefansen. A celebration of her life will be Friday, March 13, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at the St. Maries Elks Lodge. A reception will follow the services.
