Obituary of Albert Christian Schiermeister
Albert Christian Schiermeister (82) long time St. Maries resident, died Feb. 28, 2015 at St. Maries. He was born August 26, 1932 to Christ and Elizabeth (Walter) Schiermeister at Moffit, ND. He was the youngest of four children and lived on the family farm until 1954. While living on the family farm, Al also worked at a local Ford garage. Al moved to Anaconda, MT in 1954 and worked as a smelterman at a local copper processing smelter.
Al married Mary Menahan on Feb. 24, 1954 at Helena, MT. In 1959, they moved to Bismarck, ND where Al worked in construction and then purchased a Mobile Service Station in Mandan, ND. Al sold the station in 1970 and moved his family to St. Maries.
Al’s first job at St. Maries was working for Bud Bryntesen’s concrete business. He later went to work for the St. Maries Complex of Potlatch Corp. He worked there 24 years, retiring in 1994. His wife Mary died in 2013.
Al enjoyed working on antique cars and raced sprint cars in his earlier years. He was a member of the “Rusty Nuts” car club and enjoyed traveling to car shows. He and his wife even drove his 1955 Mercury to the International Car Show in Vancouver B.C., Canada several years ago. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to North Dakota and California. Several years ago, Al and Mary took several grandchildren to visit Disneyland. Al enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Al had a passion for his cat named “Kaylee”. Al served as an officer on the Board of Directors for the Senior Meal Site and worked there as a volunteer.
Al is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Al and Stacie Schiermeister, Dan and Pam Schiermeister, Ken and Jodi Schiermeister and son Tim Schiermeister all of St. Maries. His daughter Deborah Brebner-Sly of Boise, ID and the children he helped raise Bill and wife Gretchen Brebner and Jeremy and wife Yulanda Brebner all of St. Maries. Al is also survived by his sister Ruby Newland of Florida, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Besides his wife Mary, Al was preceded in death by his brother Reuben Schiermeister and sister Esther Schepp.
