Obituary of Floyd James Sherrard
Floyd James Sherrard (85) passed away at his home on June 10, 2015 in St. Maries, ID. He was born to Nathaniel and Lillian Sherrard in Ferrell, ID on November 4, 1929. At the age of 5, his family moved to St. Maries where he attended the Lincoln School and Heyburn. He graduated from St. Maries High School.
Following graduation, Floyd was drafted into the Army. He fought in the Korean War and served 2 years in the military. When Floyd returned home, he met Carol Werdell who happened to be a friend with one of his sisters. They married on March 22, 1954 at the Lutheran Church in St. Maries, ID.
Floyd went to work for St. Maries Lumber Company. When the mill burned down, he went to work for LA Williams on 10th Street. He later went to work for Potlatch’s sawmill that stood where Fred Guenther’s shop sits today. When that mill closed down, he went to work for Scott Paper retiring in 1986.
In Floyd’s retirement, he took care of the family home until his wife Carol joined him in retirement. They spent time on the Washington Coast. Floyd loved wood working making tables, clocks, Lazy Susans, and Ulu knife sets.
