Obituary of Gary Lee Barbour

Gary Lee Barbour (73) passed away at his home in St. Maries on June 19, 2015 after a short battle with cancer. Gary was born to Oris and Vivian Barbour in Pullman, WA on December 23, 1941. He grew up around Colfax, WA and one of his first jobs was at the Colfax Cemetery (which was taken care of by his wife’s father). Gary spent a majority of his career in the grocery industry. He started his career with Safeway in Moscow, transferring to Safeway in Colville, WA. While in Moscow, he met Gail Stone and began dating her. On February 8, 1964 they were married in Coeur d’ Alene, ID and started their family. Gary worked for Carter’s IGA in Chewelah, and eventually bought and owned Empire Foods in Lake Chelan. Gary and Gail decided to move back to Idaho and they chose St. Maries. He went to work for IGA when they returned and then he went to work in 1984 for Roger’s grocery store which became Super Foods and is now known as Harvest Foods retiring from there. Gary enjoyed the outdoors. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling, and drinking beer. He especially looked forward to his time with his grandson Jett on Mondays. Gary is survived by his wife Gail at the family home and his brother and sister in-law John and Carol Barbour of Spokane, WA. He is also survived by his sons and daughters in-law Brian and Nanette Barbour of St. Maries and Scott and Julie Barbour of Juliaetta; and daughter and son in-law Theresa and Scott Holmes of St. Maries, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren with another one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bill Barbour and sister Joan Curtis. At Gary’s request no services will be held; however the family is planning a gathering of family and friends at the Elks Lodge in St. Maries on July 11, 2015 at 4:00 pm.
