Obituary of William Carroll Shewell

William “Bill” Carroll Shewell (84) long time Worley resident passed away in Spokane, WA on June 28, 2015. He was born to Harold and Mary Shewell on December 21, 1930 in Salt Lake City, UT. He graduated high school in Salt Lake City in 1949 and attended Mesa College in Grand Junction, CO. While attending college, he met Cleora Dalrymple. On December 18, 1951 he married Cleora in Vernal, UT. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 serving in Korea in 1952 and being honorably discharged on July 31, 1953. Following his time in the service, the couple moved to Phoenix, AZ. William attended Phoenix College receiving an AA degree, then he attended Grand Canyon University in Phoenix receiving a BS degree in 1956. After his schooling, Bill started teaching for Alhambra School District. He received his Master’s Degree in School Administration at Arizona State University in 1960. In all of his education, Bill became an ordained minister in non-denomination bible teaching ministry. He went to work for Village Mission in 1962. He then moved to Scottsburg, OR where he pastored for 5 years. In 1967 Bill transferred to Village Mission Church in Worley, ID which is currently known as the Worley Community Church. He retired from active ministry in 1972 and became Worley’s first Fire Chief and he was active in volunteering in the community. In 1972 He moved to Canada and taught in Three Hills, Alberta at Prairie Bible Institute High School. In 1981 he returned to Worley to help his wife’s father. He taught and administrated at a Baptist school in Spokane commuting back and forth 1987-1993. Following his venture in Spokane, he worked for Plummer/Worley School District retiring from the district; however still substitute teaching. Bill was an avid reader who loved sports in every aspect, the outdoors, and volunteering his time on the Worley Community Church Governing Board and the Heart to Heart Chapel in Phoenix, AZ. Bill is survived by his wife at the family home, daughters Marith McCoul and Cindy Cronk both of Spokane Valley, WA. Graveside services were scheduled for Thursday July 2, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Evergreen Cemetery in Plummer, ID. A gathering of family and friends followed at the Worley Senior Meal Site. A memorial service is planned for July 8, 2015 11:00 am at the Worley Community Church in Worley, ID. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the church.
