Obituary of Charles W. Crowson

Charles W. Crowson (78) resident of St. Maries, ID died Dec. 17, 2011 at the home of his daughter in St. Maries following an extended illness. He was born Oct. 8, 1933 to Chauncy and Emma (Kruse) Crowson at Omaha, NB He grew up in Omaha and graduated from Tech. High School with the class of 1950. He then enlisted in the U.S. Airforce and served for 9 years. He was stationed in Anchorage AK and Colorado Springs, CO. He married Lori Mericle on Nov. 26, 1954 at Wellington, KS. He was discharged in 1960 and returned to Omaha. He spent most of his adult life working for the Nebraska Department of Social Services transporting children to appointments and family visitations. This position afforded him and his wife the opportunity to become foster parents to over 60 children as well as adopting 4 of them into their family. He retired in 2000. His wife died in 2003. He moved to St. Maries to be with his daughter in 2004. Chuck enjoyed making remote control model airplanes. He also enjoyed putting together model train layouts. He was known by area residents for sitting by his drive way entrance on State Hwy 5 and waving to passersby. Chuck was a member of the American Legion Post of Wellington, KS and the Eagles Aerie of Omaha , NB. He is survived by his daughter Debi Pharness of St. Maries. Also surviving are son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Teresa Crowson of Atlanta, GA, sons Louis Crowson of Omaha, NB, Leonard Crowson of Belleview, NB and Galen and Joel Crowson both of Lincoln, NB. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by daughter Gloria Jean Crowson. A gathering of family and friends is planned for Sunday, January 15, 2012 at his daughter Debi's home at 16789 Hwy 5 from 1:00 p.m. To 4:00 p.m. When friends may visit to share condolences and memories.
