Obituary of Janice Joy Dunow
Janice J. Dunow (84) resident of St. Maries, ID died May 3, 2012 at St. Maries following a brief illness. She was born January 15, 1928 to Ralph and Marguerite (Case) Weston at Peoria, Illinois. She grew up in Peoria and Vermont, She attended Wallingford High School in Vermont for 3 years and graduated form Woodruff High School in Peoria, IL with the Class of 1945. She worked as a receptionist for a local airport meeting an area pilot John Silva while working there and they were married in 1948 on the East Coast. They spent their married life in California and later were divorced. Shortly thereafter, Jan went to work at El Toro Marine Corp. Air Station where she worked in the administrative office. A mutual friend introduced her to her soul mate Fritz Dunow and they were married on May 29, 1965 at Lake Meade Military Base in Nevada. She was a homemaker while working at El Toro. Jan and Fritz both retired in 1967 and moved to Santa, ID. She worked at the Santa Tavern before going to work as a dispatcher for the Benewah Co. Sheriff's Office. They moved to St. Maries in 2006. Her husband died in 2011. Jan enjoyed gardening, growing and arranging flowers and also enjoyed making hooked rugs. She was known for her sense of humor. She enjoyed her annual Christmas Eve parties that were held at their Santa, ID home. She and Fritz enjoyed traveling through out the United States and attending Shrine and Masonic functions. Jan was a member of the St. Maries Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Jan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sandi and Bob Boeh of Sandpoint, ID and step-daughter and husband Lois and Les Farmer of Osage Beach, MO. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren including Hayden Avery of Sandpoint, Sisters-in-law Paula (Ralph) Arlette, Fumie Dunow, Josephine (Don) Robida and Bernice Hoff . A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday May 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hodge Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Foster officiating. The Order of Eastern Star will honor her with their tribute of affection. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the St. Maries Masonic Lodge. She and her husband's final resting place will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
