Obituary of Carol Ann Hanson
Carol Ann Hallberg Hanson (62), resident of St. Maries, ID, passed away suddenly on September 3, 2015, at her home in St. Maries. She was born March 20, 1953, to William and Ruth (Gaskill) Hallberg at Eugene, OR. Although she grew up in Tiernan, OR, Carol attended school at nearby Mapleton. The family relocated to Springfield, OR, in 1970, where Carol graduated high school at Marist High School in Eugene, with the class of 1971.
Following high school, Carol attended Maryllhurst Catholic College, and later attended business school. Carol also worked for the city of Lowell, OR, eventually gaining the position of City Clerk. Carol met Dave Hanson on Carol’s birthday in 1974. They married later, in Carson City, NV. Soon after, they moved to Idaho, eventually settling in St. Maries in 1983. They had two sons who Carol stayed home to care for. In 1990, Carol went to work for the St. Maries Gazette Record where she worked in ad composition. Illness forced her retirement nine years later.
Carol enjoyed camping, fishing, painting, gardening, arts and crafts and scrap-booking. She was a talented do-it-yourselfer and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Carol was a very giving person, and would do anything for anyone. She was a great support person and touched the lives of people all over the world through online support groups. Carol was also awarded Volunteer of the Year by the American Cancer Society.
Carol is survived by her loving husband Dave, at the family home. Sons Matt (Kaila) Hanson of St. Maries and Eric (Denise) Hanson of Lewiston. Also surviving are sisters Cheri (Russ) Sipe of Green Valley, AZ, Dede (Greg) Henderson of Sutherland, OR and Dawn (Steve) Purdy of St. Maries. Also surviving are grandchildren Benjamin and Aubrey and numerous nieces and nephews.
A “Celebration of Life” to share a meal and memories with family and friends is going to be held Saturday September 12, 2015 4:00 PM at the Eagles Lodge in St. Maries, ID.
