Obituary of Lawrence Dale Schlappy

Lawrence D. Schlappy (Larry), 58, resident and local businessman of St. Maries, Idaho died Dec. 3, 2015 at his home in St. Maries from an apparent heart attack. He was born May 19, 1957 in Missoula, Montana to Reldon and Joan (Haller) Schlappy. Larry graduated from High School in Denver, Colorado in 1975. Shortly after graduation, Larry moved to Missoula and opened up a Pawn Shop. He married Barbie Tatum in 1984. They had one daughter, Barbie Joan. They were later divorced. Larry went to work for the Investors Diversified Services in the early 1980's and then moved to St. Maries in 1997 where he started his business, Butler Bay Heating. He loved fishing and boating, traveling and road trips. He had a great love and appreciation of the great outdoors. He was a fun-loving, compassionate person, with a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He was a friend to everyone and demonstrated his love by his many acts of service to those in need within the community. He was a member of the Elk's Club, an Eagle Scout, and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Larry is survived by his daughter, Barbie Joan Schlappy-Higgins of Texas, grand daughter, Dillon; father Reldon (Sherrie) Schlappy of Utah and 7 brothers and sisters: Karen Moore, Wayne (Malinda) Schlappy, and Diane Caldwell, all of Idaho; Linda Schlappy and Sarah Ranes, Debbie (Bryan) Orme and Susan Morgan all of Utah, and David (Jill) Schlappy of Pennsylvania, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan, nephew, Jason Moore, and brother-inlaw, Scott Moore. Memorial services will be Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, St. Maries Ward, 201 South 23rd Street. Interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries, Idaho.
