Obituary of Faye Velma Thatcher

Faye Velma Thatcher, a longtime resident of St. Maries, ID, passed away in Camarillo, CA, on December 1, 2015. She was born to James and Florence Farley on November 28, 1935, in Somerville, NJ, on Thanksgiving Day. She attended grade school in New Jersey until she was 12 years old. Her family then relocated to Denver, CO, where she graduated from East High School with the class of 1954. Following high school, Faye attended Colorado State University where she earned a BS in Psychology. Shortly after graduation, Faye met Mike Thatcher who was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver. Mike was transferred to Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, WA. While Faye was visiting Mike’s family in St. Maries, they decided to get married on April 24, 1960. Following their wedding, Faye relocated to Spokane, WA to be with her husband, and she worked as a Social Worker for Washington State. Faye and her husband moved around wherever the Air Force would station him. They relocated to Glasgow, MT, when Faye became pregnant with their daughter Mary. The weather in Glasgow was cold and less desirable for Faye. As soon as Mike was honorably discharged from the Air Force in March of 1964, they drove back to Denver, had the baby in July and settled down. Five years later, Lynn was born. Faye began working as a Social Worker in Denver, which she did until 1976 when the family moved to St. Maries, ID. During Faye’s retirement years she enjoyed fishing, baking bread, and canning with her sister in-law Bobbie Thatcher, and many other close friends. For many years she was involved with the Nazarene Church in St. Maries. Faye is survived by her husband Mike at the family home; her daughter and son in-law Mary and Dave Panzer of Camarillo, CA; her daughter Lynn Thatcher of El Centro, CA; 8 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held January 8, 2016, at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Maries, ID. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Faye was also extremely fond of cats.
