Obituary of Dorothy "Aunt Sauce" Martin

Dorothy Jean "Aunt Sauce" Martin (87) former St. Maries, ID resident, died January 15, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Spokane, WA. She was born December 23, 1928 to Cyrus and Mary (Miller) Magers at Sanders, ID. Dorothy grew up in Sanders and graduated from Plummer High School with the class of 1946. She married Frank E. Martin on June 26, 1946 at Spokane, WA. They made their home in Tensed, ID. Dorothy and her husband owned and operated a grocery store located about 10 miles south of Tensed on US 95. They sold the business in the early 1950’s. She then became a stay at home mom to raise her family. She was active in the Tensed Grange at that time. In 1962, Dorothy went to work for the Latah Care Center in Moscow, ID. She worked there until 1965 when she went to work for the University of Idaho in custodial services. She retired as the custodial supervisor in 1987. Dorothy enjoyed being a “snow bird”. She and her husband loved spending their winters in Yuma, AZ and summers in Tensed. They also enjoyed traveling in their motorhome. They moved to St. Maries in 2000 and her husband died in 2001. Dorothy moved to Valley Vista Assisted Living in 2005 and in 2014, she moved to Spokane to live with her daughter and son-on-law Pam and Ron Dassow. Dorothy enjoyed quilting and when she was able, she enjoyed bowling. Dorothy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Doug and Bonnie Martin of St. Maries, her daughter and son-on-law Pam and Ron Dassow of Spokane, WA. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great greatgrandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by brothers Marshall, Curtis, Homer and Robert “Bud” Magers and her sister Margaret Jane Titus. She was also preceded in death son Michael Vance Martin and by grandson Chad Crocker-Ryle. Visitation will be Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on January 22, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the Hodge Funeral Home, St. Maries, ID. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the First Baptist Church 516 S. 2nd Street.
