Obituary of Ralph E. Christy

Ralph Edward Christy (92) formerly of Emida, ID died peacefully on June 4, 2012 at St. Maries, ID with his good friend Dottie Palmer at his side. He was born October 27, 1919 to Charles E. and Laura E (Thomas) Christy at Harrison, ID. He also had a sister, Earla Mae) who die at the age of 13 of appendicitis. He grew up in the Coeur d' Alene , Greens Ferry, ID area. As a young man, he worked at the Blue Goose Mine in the Wolf Lodge Creek area. From 1939 to 1941, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He married Mary Jane Kohler in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the Rineland and Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart serving with the Co. F, 355th Inf. Reg., 89 Division. He was discharged in 1945. He returned to North Idaho where he worked as a logger. He was divorced in 1953. He moved to Oregon where he operated a tree topping and tree removal service. He also worked in Western Washington State. He and Jane had two children, Charles Lee Mohar and Patricia Kerr, prior to their divorce. He was married to Edna Krebs Harvey April 2, 1954 in Seattle, WA and were divorced in 1978. He first came to Emida from Seattle in l980. He worked as host for Emerald Creek Campground. He moved to Emida permanently in 1983. He built a cabin in Emida on the Fuller property, where he lived peacefully and happy. He moved to St. Maries in 2006 and has been a resident of Valley Vista Care Center for the past 4 years, where he was known for his smile and kind words. Ralph enjoyed many things in his life such as; his family, his wonderful friends that were like family, gardening, and living his days in his cabin. Ralph was a sharpshooter and marksman. He was also a self educated geologist. He loved gardening, his dogs, wildlife, huckleberry picking and prospecting. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Lee and Rusty Mohar of Montague, Ca,; and daughter Patricia Kerr of Washington. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are his Emida Family Bucky and Donna Fuller and closest friends Dottie and Al Stipe of Santa, ID. and his Valley Vista Family. Dottie said "Ralph always had a twinkle in his blue eyes and he knew how to listen without judgement." He was interested in the good news and worries of his Valley Vista Care givers offering to give blood to one's daughter who had surgery. " He kept up with which of the nurses aide's were pregnant and if it was a boy of girl. They shared the news with him till the very end". Ralph was a simple human being and had a very meaningful lifetime. At his request, no services will be held.
