Obituary of Emma C. Aswegan

Emma C. Aswegan (93) longtime Plummer and St. Maries, ID resident , died June 23, 2012 at St. Maries, ID. She was born the youngest of 8 children on March 12, 1919 to Edward and Augusta (Zuelke) Ploenzke at Sebeka, MN. She attended a one room school house not far from where she was born. In the Fall of 1937, Emma moved to Stewartville, MN to find work. There she soon met her husband to be. She married Willard "Bill" Aswegan on August 24, 1938 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Stewartville. They farmed and raised their two children in the Stewartville area. They sold the farm in the fall of 1963, They bought the Highway Motel in Plummer, iD. They also built the first laundrymat in Plummer. Inl the Spring of 1980, they sold the property to Key Bank Assn. Her husband of 63 years, died in 2001. She moved from Plummer to the Lincoln Terrace Apts in St. Maries in 2005. She recently moved to Valley Vista Care Center. Emma was a member of St. Pauls' Lutheran Church of St. Maries. Other memberships include the St. John's Lutheran Ladies Aid Dist. 20 Mothers Club. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering which she self taught herself. She also enjoyed playing the piano and organ which she enjoyed doing until a few days before going to Valley Vista. Emma always was ready to polay cards. Often one would find her playing a good game solitaire. She enjoyed fising and traveling back to Minnesota to visit her son Marlowe and family. She made her last trip in 2005. Emma is surivived by sons and daughters-in-law Lorin and Joan Aswegan of St.Maries and Marlowe and Carol Aswegan of Stewartville, MN Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandsons as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by nephew Harold Ploenzke in 2006 who was like an adopted son. And nephews Duane Ploenzke and Hank Nolte. the family suggests memoials to either Hospice of North Idaho 9493 N.
